New & Innovative

NorthShore has the largest institutionally reviewed and approved Prostate Cancer Active Surveillance program in the region.

Active Surveillance in prostate cancer refers to an increasingly accepted strategy for following men with relatively low-risk, early-stage prostate cancer.

Active Surveillance offers men an alternative to surgery and radiation, and may spare them possible side effects of traditional therapy including urinary incontinence, rectal bleeding and sexual dysfunction, allowing them to maintain their current quality of life.

Multispecialty Team

The John and Carol Walter Center for Urological Health is comprised of a team of highly regarded, board-certified urologists and a clinical staff who offer advanced diagnosis and treatment of all urological diseases, affecting both men and women, including:

Our approach emphasizes open communication, collaborating with each other personally and through our award winning Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

Compassionate Care

Patients thrive when they have access to team–based care and when they can understand their treatment options. At the John and Carol Walter Center for Urological Health each patient will receive personalized care and support services incorporating psychology, integrative medicine, genetics, nutrition and survivorship.

Our board-certified urologists work closely together and with other specialists at NorthShore so that our patients benefit from the collective knowledge and experience that our health system offers.

Research

The John and Carol Walter Center for Urological Heath supports novel clinical trials to test new treatments that may ultimately improve patient care, as well as translational research projects that focus scientific enquiry on the direct improvement of clinical care and patient outcomes.

Clinical research is vital to testing new treatments that may ultimately improve patient care. NorthShore has great experience in clinical trials; hypothesis driven scientific research conducted in a laboratory setting is essential for discovery and subsequent clinical trials, which translates from the laboratory to benefit our patients.
