Biography
Dr. Elizabeth A. Burke is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the NorthShore University HealthSystem. She received her undergraduate degree in biology at Haverford College and her medical degree with honors at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey.
She then completed training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington where she obtained an education in the full breadth of plastic surgery including reconstruction following severe trauma of the head, neck and extremities. She then augmented her training with a fellowship in complex cancer reconstruction and microsurgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. There, she had the opportunity to learn the latest techniques in microsurgery from the masters of the field.
Dr. Burke’s practice focuses on reconstructive surgery following cancer resection and trauma. She also has a particular interest in melanoma including excision, management of disease and reconstruction. Her areas of expertise include:
- Breast Reconstruction after cancer (TRAM/DIEP flaps, thigh-based flaps, latissimus flaps, implants)
- Reconstruction following Mohs surgery and other skin cancer excisions
- Complex reconstruction after trauma or cancer of the upper, lower extremities, and torso
- Aesthetic breast surgery (augmentation, lifting, and reduction)
