World Series Trophy Makes Surprise Stop at NorthShore
Young patients delight in special visit
12/20/2016 - Call it a pre-holiday bonanza. Young patients and their families at NorthShore Evanston Hospital got a special treat as the coveted Commissioner’s Trophy from the Chicago Cubs’ historic World Series win made a surprise visit on Dec. 20. Cubs owner and NorthShore Board Member Tom Ricketts escorted the coveted trophy through stops in the Infant Special Care Unit (ISCU).
“It’s great to be here at NorthShore and bring in the trophy,” Ricketts said. “Obviously it was a pretty exciting fall for us, and I don’t know if the way we won could have been more dramatic. It’s wonderful to enjoy this now with some of our fans.”
Current ISCU families—including Majli and Miguel Cortez and triplets Mia, Maia and Miguel—got to view the trophy up close. Avid Cubs fans Fred and Wendy Lundgren also celebrated the moment with their three children. Twins Clark and Addison were ISCU patients a decade ago and are thriving today. The twins and their older brother James Sheffield were born at Evanston Hospital. All three are named for streets surrounding Wrigley Field.
The Cubs organization also provided our ISCU babies with newborn knit caps just in time for the holidays. NorthShore President and CEO Mark Neaman hosted a brief presentation with Ricketts and thanked him for the visit.
“It is a true honor for Mr. Ricketts to have chosen our Evanston Hospital campus as a stop on the tour of the Commissioner’s Trophy,” he said. “This historic win has capped a thrilling season for Cubs fans everywhere.”
