Any signs of head injury should be taken seriously. Patients seeking care at the NorthShore Neurological Institute and at our various clinic sites undergo a detailed history conducted by a neurologist experienced in concussion care. Better understanding the circumstances of your injury to assess immediate and changing symptoms over time are critical to providing you with personalized care. Your NorthShore specialist will evaluate you for on-going signs of dangerous brain injury such as bleeding, and more subtle signs such as memory problems, eye tracking issues and imbalance.
Your neurologist may suggest brain imaging such as a CT scan for further evaluation but in many circumstances, this will not be necessary. Treatment plans may include rest and monitoring, over-the-counter or prescribed medications, physical therapy, occupational/vision therapy, cognitive therapy, and/or exercise prescriptions.
