Family has always been important to the Krawiec sisters. Now that all four of them are part of the nursing staff at NorthShore Skokie Hospital, their work environment feels like an extension of their family.

Graduates of North Park University’s nursing program, triplets Brittany, Rachel and Sarah Krawiec joined their older sister Jennifer at Skokie Hospital. Sarah, who was last to join the NorthShore family, remembers hearing her sisters talk at the dinner table about their work environment when she was working at another institution. “I thought ‘I need to get in there,’” recalled Sarah who now works in Skokie’s Emergency Department and, like her sisters, loves her job.
“My preceptor was amazing, helping me along the way; I’ve had so many great nurses teaching me as we worked together,” said Rachel who works in 4E West, a stroke telemetry unit.
“The passion the nurses have for their work was obvious the first week I started here. The way they work with patients and their critical thinking skills is the way I want to work,” said Sarah. “I couldn’t imagine being a nurse anywhere but here right now. It’s a phenomenal team.”
“The staff here is more like family,” said Brittany, who works on 3E West a medical/surgical and palliative care unit. “We have the most supportive managers."
“Our nurse managers are so connected to their staff and helping them succeed in their nursing goals is a priority,” said Skokie Hospital Nursing Vice President Barbara Miller, RN, MS, NE-BC. “It speaks volumes that these nursing students want to start their professional careers at Skokie because of their experience here.”
Patients and their families can Say Thanks And Recognize their favorite NorthShore nurse with a gift to the Nursing STARs Program. National Nurses Week, May 6-12, is a perfect time to thank a nurse who went above and beyond. Please consider honoring your favorite nurse this National Nurses Week.
