Evanston Hospital’s Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Services hosted a successful blood drive in March with team members coming out in force to help address the national shortage.
Anesthesiologist Martin Nitsun, MD, helped organize the drive after seeing a recent promotion for blood donation. Dr. Nitsun said he immediately thought “who better than the folks in Anesthesia and Periop to understand the value of blood donation.”
“We’re involved every day in caring for patients who benefit from blood transfusion, and not infrequently we care for patients who require massive transfusion,” said Dr. Nitsun. “In these cases, as we transfuse blood products and see color and life return to these patients, we’re grateful for all those who have taken just a few minutes to donate.”
Dr. Nitsun and colleagues said the drive also offered them the opportunity to express their appreciation for the efforts that go into collecting every single unit of blood.
