This Blueberry Strawberry Trifle recipe is sure to be a crowd favorite this Fourth of July weekend with its layers of red, white, and blue ingredients. A healthy spin on a classic trifle recipe that usually contains vanilla cake and pudding, this recipe calls for lighter options – angel food cake and 2% Greek yogurt.

Blueberry Strawberry Trifle

The directions for this recipe calls for all the ingredients to be combined into one medium-sized serving bowl and then distributed into smaller, separate portions like the picture above. Try this festive Fourth of July trifle suggested by Vanessa Lennie, MS, RDN, LDN, Oncology Nutrition:

Ingredients:

  • 2 pints strawberries, sliced
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract (instead of sugar)
  • 4 cups of 2% vanilla Greek yogurt
  • Angel food cake, cubed
  • 2 pints of fresh blueberries
  • 2 cups of whipped cream (regular or fat-free)

Directions:

  1. Add sliced strawberries to a medium bowl. Add vanilla extract and stir to combine.
  2. Assemble the trifle in layers by adding ½ of the vanilla Greek yogurt to the bottom of the trifle bowl, followed by ½ of the angel food cake cubes,  of the strawberries and blueberries, and ½ of the whipped cream. Repeat with another layer of the vanilla Greek Yogurt, angel food cake, strawberries and blueberries and whipped cream.
  3. Top with the final  of the strawberries and blueberries just prior to serving.
