NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) today received approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to build a new, state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) complex on NorthShore’s Glenbrook Hospital campus in Glenview.

“Our vision is to be the first choice for patients, families and providers in the communities we serve for the delivery of high-quality, personalized cardiovascular care,” said Gregory Mishkel, MD, Chief, Division of Cardiology and Co-Director, CVI.

What to Know:

1. We are constructing a new 167-thousand-foot cardiovascular complex on our Glenbrook Hospital campus in Glenview, IL. “Cardiovascular” means conditions that involve the heart or the circulatory system (arteries, veins) that pump blood through the body.
2. Construction is slated to begin in early 2022 and be completed by the end of 2023.
3. The new complex will be the central hub for our heart and vascular patients.
4. It will have six operating rooms and nine labs for procedures and surgeries.
5. There’s plenty of office space, too, to see your cardiologist for appointments and scans.
6. We’re constructing a new complex to respond to the growing cardiovascular needs within our communities.
7. We chose the Glenbrook campus location because of existing land and easy access to Interstate 294.
8. Glenbrook Hospital is not changing, and will continue to be a general medical/surgical hospital with full Emergency Department capabilities.
9. Evanston and Highland Park Hospitals will continue to provide emergency cardiovascular procedures. In fact, the cardiac surgery program will continue at the Highland Park campus. Swedish and Northwest Community Hospitals will continue cardiology and open-heart surgery programs.
