Updated May 8: Pre-Surgical & Procedural COVID-19 Testing Guidance
Based on our ongoing review of the evidence and in line with CDC community transmission rates, we have eased testing guidelines by no longer requiring routine testing for all patients before procedures or admissions.
Routine Pre-Procedure COVID Testing
Pre-procedure COVID testing by PCR is now required only for patients who:
- Report symptoms of COVID-19 or significant exposures to someone with COVID-19 (close household contacts within 10 days) on pre-procedure screening; OR
- Require ICU admission (planned or unplanned) following their procedure (for unplanned ICU admissions, testing will be administered upon arrival to the ICU)
While no longer required for all patients, providers may continue to test at their discretion.
